A Letter From Dr. Dougherty
After nearly 40 years of caring for patients, Dr. Mark Dougherty has written a personal letter to share the news of his retirement and introduce Dr. Sandy Ku as the new owner of the practice. Dr. Sandy Ku
Dr. Sandy Ku was born in Taiwan and raised in Yorba Linda, where she grew up inspired by a family tradition of dentistry; she's a proud third-generation dentist. Her dedication to oral health began early, spending time in her parents' dental office and participating in dental mission trips during college. These experiences shaped her passion for helping others through dentistry.
Dr. Ku earned her degree in biomedical engineering at UC Irvine, but a change of heart led her to dentistry. She graduated in the top 10% of her class from Western University of Health Sciences and then pursued advanced training at UCLA in general dentistry. It was during her training that she discovered her true calling in periodontics.
She completed a rigorous periodontics residency at the University of Illinois Chicago, where she earned an advanced certificate in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry as well as a Master of Science in Oral Sciences. During her residency, Dr. Ku focused her research on cancer genetics, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and excellence in her field. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, A Recognized Specialty of the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards.
Dr. Ku brings more than five years of experience to her practice, offering a wealth of knowledge in gum disease treatment, dental implant placement, and advanced periodontal procedures. She loves making a meaningful difference in her patients' lives by improving their health and confidence. In her free time, Dr. Ku enjoys baking, discovering new restaurants with her husband, and spending time with their beloved dog, Sesame.
Your Registered Dental Hygienist
Abbra
Originally from Lake Arrowhead, Abbra has called Orange County home since attending Cypress College’s Dental Hygiene Program. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University.
Abbra has been a valued dental hygienist with the practice since 2011 and truly enjoys helping patients achieve healthier smiles and better overall oral health. Throughout her career, she has also gained experience in general dentistry and spent several years serving as an adjunct clinical Dental Hygiene instructor, sharing her passion for patient care and education with future hygienists.
Outside the office, Abbra loves spending time with her husband and cheering on their two sons at baseball and flag football games.
