A Letter From Dr. Dougherty
After nearly 40 years of caring for patients, Dr. Mark Dougherty has written a personal letter to share the news of his retirement and introduce Dr. Sandy Ku as the new owner of the practice. Dr. Sandy Ku
Dr. Sandy Ku is a board-certified periodontist and implantologist, and a proud third-generation dentist. Her path to periodontics began with a degree in biomedical engineering from UC Irvine, followed by dental school at Western University of Health Sciences, where she graduated in the top 10% of her class. She went on to complete an residency in advanced general dentistry at UCLA before pursuing specialty training in periodontics.
Dr. Ku completed her residency in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at the University of Illinois Chicago, earning both an advanced certificate and a Master of Science in Oral Sciences. During her residency, she conducted research in cancer genetics and became a published author — an experience that shaped her ongoing commitment to innovation and evidence-based care.
Today, Dr. Ku brings advanced expertise in gum disease treatment, dental implant placement, and periodontal regenerative procedures to every patient she sees. She is passionate about helping patients feel confident in their smiles and their oral health, and she approaches every case with a personalized, compassionate touch.
Outside the office, Dr. Ku enjoys making pottery, baking, exploring cuisines from different cultures with her husband and spending time with their dog, Sesame.
Your Registered Dental Hygienist
Abbra
Originally from Lake Arrowhead, Abbra has called Orange County home since attending Cypress College’s Dental Hygiene Program. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University.
Abbra has been a valued dental hygienist with the practice since 2011 and truly enjoys helping patients achieve healthier smiles and better overall oral health. Throughout her career, she has also gained experience in general dentistry and spent several years serving as an adjunct clinical Dental Hygiene instructor, sharing her passion for patient care and education with future hygienists.
Outside the office, Abbra loves spending time with her husband and cheering on their two sons at baseball and flag football games.
